Fence or deck decision looming? We’ve got the pros, cons, and no regrets approach. Because this level of commitment deserves the right match, too.
Thinking about a fence or deck project in 2026? Start here.
You don’t have to have everything figured out — that’s what we’re here for. But if you’re considering building (or rebuilding), these 13 simple questions will help you decide whether you’re ready to move forward with confidence… or if it’s time to hit pause and plan a little more.

Scroll through, answer honestly, and see where you land. Spoiler alert: If you nod “yes” to most of these, you’re more ready than you think.
Do you know what kind of project you want to build?
Even if you’re undecided, just having a general idea helps guide the conversation.
Have you picked out your materials — or at least narrowed it down?
We’re happy to explain the pros and cons — but coming in with preferences gives us a head start.
Do you have a layout or inspiration in mind?
Even a rough sketch on a napkin counts. The clearer your vision, the smoother your build.
What’s your estimated budget range?
We don’t need your tax returns — just a ballpark number to help us tailor your options and avoid wasting your time with choices that don’t match.
When would you ideally like the project to begin?
- Yesterday
- Within the next 60 days
- “Whenever it works”
Your timeline sets the pace for everything else.
Are there any non-negotiable deadlines?
Maybe you’ve got a graduation party, a move-in date, or in-laws showing up with zero warning. Let us know what we’re working with.
Can you meet in person for an on-site estimate?
Seeing the space firsthand lets us give a more accurate quote — plus, you get face time with an actual human, not an automated form.
Is your property in an HOA-regulated neighborhood?
If so, we’ll help navigate permits and submissions (because we’ve yet to meet anyone who enjoys that part).
Have you checked your property lines recently?
It’s okay if you haven’t, but knowing where your land ends does help avoid awkward conversations with neighbors later.
Are there any known issues on your property?
Drainage, slope, or old utility lines? We’ll want to know ahead of time — because fencing over a mystery pipe rarely ends well.
Will all decision-makers be involved from the start?
We’ve done this long enough to know: surprise opinions mid-project = delays. Get everyone on board early.
Have you hired a contractor for outdoor work before?
If you have, awesome. If not, no problem — we’ll guide you through every step and keep it simple.
What matters most to you in this project?
Choose your top 3
- Style
- Speed
- Budget
- Durability
- Privacy
- Maintenance-free
Your priorities help shape everything — from the materials we recommend to the timeline we build around.
Your Score? Doesn’t Matter. Your Answers? They Do.
This isn’t a test — it’s a tool. If you answered confidently to most of these, you’re likely in great shape to move forward. If some of your answers were more “Uhhh…” than “Absolutely” — that’s totally fine, too. We’re here to help you fill in the gaps, answer the weird questions, and build a fence or deck that fits your life.
